Broadly speaking there is a solar system for everyones needs. There are exceptions that make it financially unviable or possible local planning issues that prevent installations. ie listed buildings or protected areas.

The ideal situation; a conventional household heating system.
A gas, oil, or electric boiler, with cold water tank in the loft with easy access. An airing cupboard with a hot water cylinder, with a south facing or flat roof. A typical 2 story house. This would provide the most suitable property and therefore most cost effective installation.

The variables.
East/ West facing roofs; These are still suitable, they reduce efficiency by a small percentage as the panels do not face directly at the sun. An increase in panels may be required, along with a higher spec controller.
Combi boilers; Unfortunately these do not lend themselves well to solar installations. Many cannot accept water coming into them at the temperatures that the panels produce. Some combi manufacturers are now producing there own systems to be compatible with their products. (Please contact me for further assistance on this).
No cold water tank; This may mean that you have a combi boiler or,
Mains/high pressure water; These systems can accept solar installations but the cylinders are more expensive than conventional ones.( Please contact me for more information on these).

Planning; Different local authorities have mixed opinions on solar installations. Most accept them under the rules that relate to roof windows, if the panel lays against the roof line then it will not need permission. The exceptions are that if the building is listed or it has a flat roof. (Please contact us for further help.)

Wear it with pride!
Each 20 tube panel is about 1.5m by 1.5m. You do notice them, but as they become more widespread they will become the norm. Wear your panels with pride and show that you are doing your bit!

Something for everyone....
